Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, or PRP, is rapidly growing in popularity as a method of non-surgical chin reshaping. While dermal fillers can also be used to enhance the appearance of the chin area, PRP is an exciting alternative form of therapy since it uses cytokines and other growth factors to regenerate tissue. It is also noted to promote the growth of collagen, which fills fines lines and wrinkles under the surface of the skin.
A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient, and then placed into a centrifuge to separate the platelets. The doctor then removes the platelets, and it is either injected by itself to promote tissue healing and regeneration, or added to a dermal filler or fat that will then be injected into the area that needs improvement.
Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy or receiving dermal fillers typically require a local anestethic and can be injected within a half hour. Pain is minimal and recovery only takes a couple of days. Ice packs may be applied to the chin to reduce swelling. Patients may experience some bruising around the injection site.
PRP injections are administered by an experienced professional at CRMC and results are expected to last from six to nine months. This is one of many fantastic breakthroughs in non-surgical chin reshaping procedures.
